a little bit of everything and a whole lot of film

Muse | Jeanne Damas

Jeanne Damas is THE French It girl of the moment and no one can tell me otherwise.

Taking her cues from Jane Birkin to Isabelle Adjani (circa 'One Deadly Summer'), her style is effortlessly chic without the austere stuffiness that sometimes comes with haute couture - although make no mistake, Jeanne is as much at home on the front row at Paris Fashion week as she is in the souks of Marrakech. J'adore (sorry, couldn't resist) everything about her, from her style to her apartment and her cat (so cute!) to her minimalist makeup approach (more focus on the skincare aspect) to her choice of books. She even carries a film point and shoot camera with her everywhere she goes, (an Olympus MJU ii) , as you can see in her blog, wherein the photos are all shot on film. Fun fact: All the photos in her book, À Paris, were shot on film as well.

A model, an author, a business woman (her own clothing brand, Rouje, was launched in Spring 2016), an actress and all around muse, Jeanne is a definitely force to be reckoned with in the creative world.

Below is a list I've compiled of all of Jeanne's essentials and may we also be blessed with gorgeous skin, an endless supply of red lipstick and lush travails around the world. Always.

1. MAC Lipstick in Ruby Woo and Diva - I have blogged about Ruby Woo, here. Everything I said still stands true and forever will. Diva is a rich, matte plummy red that Jeanne loves to wear on evenings out. She always, always applies her lipstick with her fingers, patting it on for that melted look and cleaning the edges with a q-tip dipped in her favourite makeup remover. She also loves mixing a lot of different colours to create her perfect shade.

2. Bioderma Sensibio Riche moisturiser and Sensibio H2O - Both formerly from the Crealine line, Bioderma has done a bit of rebranding but the formula has (thankfully) stayed the same. Even with Riche as part of its name, the moisturiser is light and yet supremely moisturising. It has now become one of my staples and I seriously wake up with glowy skin everytime I use it. Another staple for Jeanne is the micellar water, which has now become a cult favourite amongst those who are French pharmacy product freaks, me included.

3. Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse and Rêve de Miel - If vacationing in the South of France had a scent, I think Huile Prodigieuse would be it. A multi purpose dry oil which you can use on your hair, on your body and on your face, it is an essential all around beauty product in every French woman's beauty arsenal. They have even come out with one that is infused with bronze shimmer to enhance that Biarritz tan. Rêve de Miel might be a bit daunting at first application - it's gritty and dense and mattifying, with a scent that hints at honeyed orange blossoms. Keep at it - it gets better I promise and your lips will be luscious in no time.

4. Rouje dresses - These two are my top two favourites and Jeanne's too, as evidenced by her Instagram. Do keep an eye on her site as these are perennially sold out.

5. Clarins UV Plus Anti Pollution SPF 50 sunscreen - Sunscreen is key. Start now, if you haven't already and never forget to put it on for the rest of your life. Sun damage is the main cause of premature aging and if you're below 25 and reading this, boy are you lucky (I say, one is never too young to start caring for one's skin) - run to the nearest Clarins counter now and pick this up. Light, airy without the icky sticky sunscreen feel (or stench) this glides on like a dream and absorbs instantly.

6. Espadrilles - The footwear of choice of the French It girl crew, don't go too high or you lose the 'oh I just got back from vacation and threw this on' vibe. To be worn with everything and I mean, EVERYTHING.

7. Klorane Dry Shampoo - Sprayed on liberally after a particularly wild night out, this has saved Jeanne on many a busy morning.

8. Basket Bag - A trend copped directly from the OG basket bag bearer, Jane Birkin, Jeanne has quite a selection of basket bags and although she has never revealed her sources (yet), you can find amazing ones on eBay and Etsy

9. Film camera - Jeanne is partial to the Olympus MJU ii (she has them in multiple colours and has taken selfies with them too many times to even count) which is the film point and shoot camera of choice amongst the analogue community, although she has been seen with a Contax T2 and a Fujiflm Instax Mini 70 as well.

Who is your favourite French It girl?
