My favourite Highlighters

Repeat after me.

"Highlighters are a beautiful thing."

Most women are a little apprehensive about highlighters, oftentimes foregoing it altogether from their makeup routines. But with the right highlighter, a fan brush and a light hand, it may be all you need to give your face that certain oomph. I have always believed that a little shimmer never hurts.

My favourite would have to be Nars highlighting blush in Albatross. It looks deceptively white in the pan but upon swatching it is like the colour of a dragonfly's wing, iridescent green and gold suspended in the most transparent of shimmers. Pat the tiniest bit on your browbone, dust some on your cheekbones and you'll look like your glowing from within. Albatross is the highlighter of choice amongst celebrity makeup artists.

TheBalm's Mary Lou-manizer is very, very pigmented and when I say a light hand is needed for application then I mean the lightest of light that you can manage, lest you end up looking like a disco ball that has rolled around in an oil slick. Mary Lou-manizer is a gold champagne shimmer highlighter and would look best on those with medium to dark skin tones. This looks AMAZING with a tan.

MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle has been around for quite some time now and has been a firm favourite amongst beauty bloggers and YouTube beauty gurus. It's a pale, peachy golden shimmer that is a tad bit lighter in tone than Mary Lou-manizer and as its name implies, it comes off very soft. And gentle.

Now, some of you might think that highlighter is a little too high maintenance and would make you look too done up but trust me when it's applied right, it makes your entire face come alive and sometimes, may be the only difference you need when you feel like you're stuck in a makeup rut.

What's your favourite highlighter?

Nars is available at all Sephora stores in the UAE
Thebalm is available in all Debenhams counters in the UAE but I am partial to the one in Mall of the Emirates
MAC cosmetics at all Mac counters throughout the UAE as well as in Bloomingdales and Harvey Nichols but my favorite counters are the ones at Sahara Mall and Wafi Mall, purely for the sweet and knowledgeable SAs
